Copywrites and Links; Question for Code-3 kmistove
From the Code 3 Posting guidelines:

Please do not put copyrighted images in posts. The use of "hotlinking" to other websites property is also not acceptable. Please provide a link only to external images.
In the future I will ask posters to remove images that are in violation of this policy. In some cases I will delete a post if it contains a majority of copyrighted images. I will always notify the poster when this is done.
Members who do not abide by this policy will be warned. If warned members continue to violate this policy, their accounts will be deleted. From the Code 3 Posting guidelines:

For the life of me I can't figure out why my posting is half black and half gray. I tried redoing it several times with the result being the same. I'm sorry if it is hard to read.

First, I'm not trying to make things difficult for anybody. I have been asked to protect Code 3's website images from being "stolen". This made me take a close look at the forum. I discovered too much copyrighted material. I know nobody is doing it intentionally, but as a publicly traded company Code 3 needs to be more responsible. I said in another post that I won't be looking at previously posted material. I just hope that going forward posters can avoid posting pictures that they do not have the rights too.
1.) Here is an example of a hotlink:
If you right click the image, it shows that it is being loaded from the Code 3 site (someone posted pictures directly linked to the Seagrave website. That is not allowed and I deleted the post.). However there is an exception, linking to a picture(s) that you yourself have taken and posted on PhotoBucket and similar sites is allowed.
2.) The accepted way of adding this picture to your post is to just provide a link: Gettysburg Picture
This way the reader is taken to the original website and no copyright infringement has taken place. I would prefer that you link to the web page containing the image and not directly to the image, but either way would be OK.
3.) The forum software also allows you to uploaded pictures. I can't always tell if the images are copyrighted, so I have to give the benefit of the doubt. However, if there is a copyright notice on the picture, I will question it.
I hope that explains it. Again, I really do not like deleting posts and would prefer not to. All Code 3 asks is that members of this forum think before posting an image. If you don't own the image, don't uploaded it. Provide a link instead.
I am going to move this to the "Question Box" where it might have more exposure.
