What about a new scale?

Why not enter the HO Scale, 1/87 Scale market. The is a HUGE demand for Fire Apparatus in this scale. Aside from the collectors, there are plenty of HO Scale train modelers out there are a in need of modern apparatus. Boley started out hot with their International and Spartan, but has seemed to drop off the face of the earth. HO'ers could really go for Rescue Pumpers, Ladder (Tiller and Rear mounts), Heavy Rescue's, Towers etc etc etc.

HO tend to be lesser quality.

Code 3 is having issues with getting 1/64 and 1/32 stuff to market, and we saw ith the Philly Squirt, QA problems as well. Let's not give them more to worry about. Keep the 1/64 and 1/32, and nothing else.

I really must disagree. Have you ever seen the Athearn fire apparatus?

No, but C3's trucks would be lesser quality because they couldn't handle it. They should REALLY only do 1/64, less responsibility!

Take a look at the Athearn 1/87 scale trucks with their details. They are on par with Code 3. They are Ford C and Macks-pumper, TeleSqurt & Heavy Rescue.

And yes, I do agree that Code 3 is having Quality Control issue's. I am not saying that they should do 1/87 now, they do need to get everything under control. Once that is done, I do believe 1/87 should be looked at. There are plenty of 1/87 guys that are not collectors but are model railroaders. They are in need of modern apparatus.

What I am saying, is that if Code 3 starts doing another scale, 1/64 trucks will lose quality, it would be too expensive anyway. So, 1/87 should be left to another company.

I am sorry, but I really disagree. To say that the 1/64 would loose quality is just pure speculation with no facts to back up. A rig in the $20-$30 range would not be too expensive.

Not for the truck, for the machinery! And it's not speculation, if they use all their money for the 1/87 equipment, they have to spend less on 1/64 models!

I've seen the Athearn stuff. Quite honestly, all their fire equipment, in all scales, suck. The quality and accuracy is nowhere near what Code 3 does. The 1/87 market is saturated with various manufacturers. Most are used in HO model train sets and very little are bought by collectors. It would be a waste of Code 3's money. The 1/64 market is pretty well dominated by Code 3 and they've carved a nice little niche for themselves. But 1/87's completely lose their intricate detail on graphics and specs. Half the time the details are so fine on Code 3's 1/64's, you can hardly read them either. Just imagine shrinking it down more.

My thoughts exactly. They don't even compare to C3 and are now costing almost as much. Beforre I pay $29.95 for a 1/87 Athearn I would put another $10 with it and buy a C3
