Austin EMS is very progressive. Not your typical ambulance service. In most systems, EMS is the stretcher fetchers for the Fire guys, not here. Austin and surrounding Fire agencies a EMT Basics with a small number of Intermediates, with EMS staffing all ambulances with two Paramedics. Austin EMS rules the roost and has scene command over Fire on all medical calls and joint command on motor vehicle accidents. STAR Flight is also part of Austin EMS and they have their own Special Ops and Tactical teams.
